Bringing together an international range of academics, Gender,
Sexualities and Law provides a comprehensive interrogation of the
range of contemporary issues - both topical and controversial -
raised by the gendered character of law, legal discourse and
institutions. The gendering of law, persons and the legal
profession, along with the gender bias of legal outcomes, has been
a fractious, but fertile, focus of reflection. It has, moreover,
been an important site of political struggle. This collection of
essays offers an unrivalled examination of its various contemporary
dimensions, focusing on: issues of theory and representation;
violence, both national and international; reproduction and
parenting; and partnership, sexuality, marriage and the family.
Gender, Sexualities and Law will be invaluable for all those
engaged in research and study of the law (and related fields) as a
form of gendered power.

Violence against women remains one of the most pervasive human
rights violations in the world today, and it permeates every
society, at every level. Such violence is considered a systemic,
widespread and pervasive human rights violation, experienced
largely by women because they are women. Yet at the international
level, there is a gap in the legal protection of women from
violence. There is currently no binding international convention
that explicitly prohibits such violence; or calls for its
elimination; or, mandates the criminalisation of all forms of
violence against women. This book critically analyses the treatment
of violence against women in the United Nations system, and in
three regional human rights systems. Each chapter explores the
advantages and disadvantages coming from the legal instruments, the
work of the monitoring systems, and the resulting findings and
jurisprudence. The book proposes that the gap needs to be addressed
through a new United Nations Convention on the Elimination of All
Forms of Violence against Women, or alternatively an Optional
Protocol to the Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of
Discrimination against Women. A new Convention or Optional Protocol
would be part of the transformative agenda that is needed to
normatively address the promotion of a life free of violence for
women, the responsibility of states to act with due diligence in
the elimination of all forms of violence against all women, and the
systemic challenges that are the causes and consequences of such
violence.

Pure gold and deeply thought-provoking. This is the second
generously sized instalment of Dr Jackie Jones-Hunt's paradigm
shattering Animal Souls serialized research. The first instalment
being the acclaimed Proof Animals Have Souls. These instalments are
receiving scores of fantastic reviews from professors, animal
charities, celebrities and old and young lay people who feel they
are spiritually inclined or simply have an interest in or love of
animals or family pet. All readers will have their curiosity
satisfied as all want to know where our beloved animal companions
go at death and if we too, survive physical death and if we will
all be reunited in the end. In this yet again meticulously
researched volume we continue to learn that the world's greats from
the beginning of time to present day taught and continue to teach
the human animal to elevate his/her spirituality to embrace
all-inclusive compassion for fellow animals who share this planet
with us. Here, we learn what the great teachers of the world had to
say about the callously indifferent cruelty humanity inflicts on
animals leading to violence, murder and war for humanity. We learn
that our actions implicate us in the shared responsibility for the
mass-slaughter of animals and most individuals have unknowingly
played his/her part in creating the current multi-million dollar
animal slaughter industry. One American pre-publication review,
highly recommending this serialization, stated all animals will
applaud the compassionate world this well-researched work can
create. This volume provides an invaluable summary of quotations
from the most elevated spiritual teachers and prophets to those who
have made and continue to make great contributions to the world.
This is a great book to dip into and use as a reference manual for
all ages especially those who consider themselves to be
environmentally aware and/or spiritual truth-seekers.
Pure gold Comprehensive, thought-provoking and paradigm shattering
with the power to change lives for the better. Readers' sensitivity
and compassion for all fellow animals will be dramatically elevated
whilst they learn that all-inclusive compassion also elevates our
compassion and treatment of the human animal with enduring,
positive consequences as to how we treat each other. Those
suffering with bereavement by the loss of an animal companion will
be greatly comforted with the deeply moving evidence of their
post-death survival clearly documented in these pages while all
readers will have a deeper understanding of fellow animals and will
never again view their animal companions in a limited way. As we
are all animals, human and non-human animals, who are we to say one
animal survives death and another does not? After all, humans had
tails historically and today human foetuses still have tails in the
womb and some human babies are born with tails readily evidenced
with medical photographs on the internet. This first generously
sized volume is the first instalment in a series which both
shockingly evidences animal post-death survival and provides us
with the spiritual teachings of non-violence, vegetarianism and
all-inclusive compassion of the ancient writers of the Upanishads
leading to Hinduism, the long line of ancient Greek vegetarian
philosophers, Confucius, the Buddha and Jesus and his first
followers. We also look at the vegetarianism since birth of Jesus'
brother, James, who led the first followers of Jesus, the
vegetarian Jewish-Christians, from Jerusalem, in accordance with
Jesus' wishes for several decades before orthodoxy assigned James
to the historical scrap heap. Two thousand years of Pauline
theology alongside 500 years of Lutheran moulding of thought has
shaped our misunderstanding of Jesus' vegetarian teachings. This
fascinating and meticulous research has over 30 fantastic
pre-publication reviews from professors, international animal
charities and fellow authors.
Whether it's a car or a person, every once in a while we all need a
tune-up. Every 7 thousand miles or every 7 years, time to change
the oil or change our lives. To whom do we turn? Jackie Jones is
just that woman. In "Taking Care of the Business of You: Seven Days
to Get Your Career on Track," Journalist, Teacher and Professional
Coach, Jackie Jones will ask questions, make suggestions, push and
prod us to jumpstart our professional lives. We can all use the wit
and professional wisdom of Coach Jackie Jones. Heck, if my hometown
sports teams had a coach like Jackie Jones, we would have
championship banners all over town. Put me in coach
""You Are A Beautiful Angel Sent From God"" is a compelling story
of resilience of the spirit. It is the story of a little girl who
has a young life filled with trauma and abuse. It is the story of a
young woman who launches a career in nursing and discovers new
depths of compassion and caring. It is the story of a young family
who moves to Alaska and finds their faith, opening their home to
foster children and to care for little ones in need. It is the
story of earthly angels who help them through troubled times.
Finally, it is the story of memories lost and memories found. At
age 62, one year after her mother's death, Jackie starts having
memories that had not been in her awareness before. Tortured by the
memories, she begins therapy. She is treated for chronic
Post-traumatic Stress Disorder. What follows is a journey that is
steeped in courage, a journey that leads to hope. May her story
also bring hope to you!
European consumer law has become a vital part of both legal
education and practice. This Casebook details the most fundamental
judgments of the Court of Justice on consumer law to date and their
effect on national legal systems. It contains twenty leading
European cases and is then followed by concise analyses of the
effect of these decisions on some of the national legal systems of
the Member States, and how national legislatures and national courts
have reacted to this ever burgeoning area of European law. The
focus of the book is private law, including consumer contracts,
advertisement law, European product liability and consumer dispute
resolutions. The Casebook is an essential guide for students and
practitioners alike. It provides the reader with an overview of the
most important cases and analyses in the area of European consumer
law on both European and national levels. The editors and
contributors to the country reports are members of the EU- funded
research network 'Common Principles of European Private Law'.
Feminist theory has grown into a vast field. Feminist writers,
thinkers, and activists have produced an often bewildering body of
knowledge concerned with difference and diversity, identity and
inequality, ethnicity, race, and class, as well as gender. Despite
its growing influence, however, no single comprehensive text
encompasses the past, present, and future of feminist theory.
"Contemporary Feminist Theories" was inspired by a
dissatisfaction with existing introductions, which often fail to
fully track change and capture diversity within feminist thought.
The volume draws on the expertise of a range of Western feminists
in order to reflect the breadth of feminist theory as well as
shifts within it. Each chapter maps the development of feminist
thought in a particular area over time, and suggests future
directions.
Reflecting the diversity of feminist theory in fields from
literature and linguistics to science and politics, this
multi-disciplinary map of feminist thinking is an ideal classroom
text.
The contributors include Lisa Adkins, Vicki Bertram, Deborah
Cameron, Elizabeth Frazer, Caroline Gonda, Penelope Harvey, Maggie
Humm, Kadiatu Kanneh, Mary Maynard, Sara Mills, Jane Scoular, Sue
Thornham, Sue Vice, and Patricia Waugh.
